Tarleton State Tennis Triumphs Over UT Arlington in Thrilling Senior Day Victory
2025-04-10

In a memorable match at the Tarleton Tennis Facility, Tarleton State’s tennis team avenged an earlier loss to UT Arlington by securing a decisive 4-2 win. Celebrating Senior Day, the Texans honored graduating players Maretha Burger and Noelia Lorca with a flawless home record of 7-0 in 2025. Key contributors included juniors Ximena Morales and Adeliya Mukhutdinova, whose stellar performances in both singles and doubles propelled the team to victory. Head coach Elianne Douglas-Miron praised the seniors for their dedication and leadership, while highlighting the juniors’ crucial roles in maintaining momentum throughout the match.

As the match unfolded, Tarleton relied heavily on its doubles prowess to secure the initial advantage. On Court 3, Burger teamed up with Mukhutdinova to defeat Maria Lu Araoz-Gosn and Nika Novikova in a tightly contested 6-3 match. Meanwhile, Lorca and Morales showcased resilience on Court 1, overcoming a challenging tiebreak to clinch their doubles encounter 7-6. This pivotal triumph provided the Texans with essential momentum heading into singles play.

Transitioning into singles, Morales continued her impressive form, dispatching Mialy Ranaivo in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-2. Her victory not only extended her season tally to 11 wins but also gave Tarleton a commanding lead in the overall match. Mukhutdinova followed suit, delivering a dominant performance against Novikova on Court 5 with another 6-3, 6-3 victory. These results left Tarleton one point away from sealing the match.

Despite UT Arlington leveling the score through victories on Courts 1 and 6, freshman Maria Castano and senior Lorca demonstrated grit by forcing third-set deciders. Castano capitalized on her opponent's retirement to claim her 14th win of the season, while Lorca's match remained unfinished due to time constraints. The collective effort underscored Tarleton's depth and determination.

Looking ahead, the Texans aim to maintain their momentum as they prepare for their final regular-season showdown against Abilene Christian this Saturday at 1 p.m. Following this clash, they will head to Arlington for the WAC Tournament, where they hope to carry forward the spirit and camaraderie displayed during this triumphant Senior Day celebration.
