With Nico Iamaleava departing for the transfer portal, all eyes were on the two remaining quarterbacks—redshirt freshman Jake Merklinger and early enrollee freshman George MacIntyre. As the final practice and scrimmage of the spring unfolded, these players took center stage, demonstrating their potential under pressure.

Following a season where Merklinger served as the third-string quarterback, completing six-of-nine passes for 49 yards across two games, expectations were tempered but hopeful. Meanwhile, MacIntyre, a four-star recruit from the 2025 class, was experiencing his first taste of collegiate-level drills.
