Trainer Kenny McPeek has outlined an ambitious early 2025 racing schedule for Thorpedo Anna, the reigning champion and a leading contender for 2024 Horse of the Year. According to McPeek, this exceptional athlete is being considered for two significant races at Oaklawn Park: the Grade 2 Azeri Stakes on March 8 and the Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) on April 12. Both events are set over a distance of 1 1/16 miles.
The Azeri Stakes serves as the final major preparation for the Apple Blossom, one of the most prestigious races for older fillies and mares in the United States. Additionally, McPeek hinted that Thorpedo Anna might venture abroad to challenge male competitors in the $10 million Dubai World Cup (G1) on April 5 in the United Arab Emirates. Since resuming training in Florida this month, Thorpedo Anna has shown remarkable fitness and enthusiasm, making her a strong candidate for these high-profile events.
Thorpedo Anna’s last appearance was a commanding victory in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff on November 2 at Del Mar, where she won by 2.5 lengths. This triumph marked her first race against older horses and capped off a stellar year that included six stakes wins out of seven starts. After reuniting with jockey Robby Albarado at Gulfstream Park on January 6, Thorpedo Anna is now preparing for her first breeze of 2025. Her natural athleticism and readiness have impressed everyone involved in her training.
Beyond her impressive record, Thorpedo Anna's journey exemplifies the dedication and passion that define the sport of horse racing. Her consistent performance and resilience highlight the importance of perseverance and strategic planning. As she prepares for the upcoming challenges, Thorpedo Anna continues to inspire both trainers and fans alike, symbolizing the spirit of excellence and determination in the racing world.
