Tyran Stokes' Debut and Notre Dame's Victory

The long-anticipated appearance of 6-foot-7 junior Tyran Stokes at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High finally took place on Friday. After recovering from wrist surgery, Stokes, who transferred from Prolific Prep and won a gold medal with the USA under-17 national team during the summer, scored 20 points in an impressive 82-55 win over Fairfax. Coach Matt Sargeant praised Stokes, stating, "He's a great player, easy to play with, and will only get better as he gets back into shape. His wrist is healed. Surgery did its job."Most of Stokes' points came around the rim, and he also made one three-pointer. NaVorro Bowman contributed 21 points for the 8-0 Notre Dame team, which has a nonleague game on Saturday against El Camino Real and then travels to Las Vegas next week for the Tarkanian Classic.
