Jerry Neuheisel's Journey at UCLA

Jerry Neuheisel, a former Bruins quarterback, has been an integral part of the UCLA football family for quite some time. With seven years at his alma mater and a total of eight years in coaching, he has made a mark with his dedication and passion. In 2024, he completed his first season as the tight ends coach, building on his previous experience as the wide receivers coach across three prior campaigns.

Player Success under Neuheisel

In 2024, Moliki Matavao shone under Neuheisel's tutelage. Leading the Bruins in receptions with 41 and receiving yards with 506, he twice surpassed 100 yards through the air, contributing to team wins in both games. Matavao was also presented the Jackie R. Robinson Award for athletic and academic balance at UCLA's year-end banquet.

In 2023, it was wide receiver Logan Loya who broke out. Reeling in 59 passes for 655 yards and five touchdowns, all team highs, he showed exceptional skills. J.Michael Sturdivant led all Bruin wide receivers with a yards-per-catch average of 16.6 and added four receiving scores of his own.

UCLA's Offensive Milestones

In 2022, the UCLA offense achieved a milestone by putting up more than 500 yards per game for the first time in school history. Jake Bobo paced Neuheisel's room, with 57 catches, 817 receiving yards, and seven touchdown grabs. Five wideouts set career bests for receptions, highlighting the impact of Neuheisel's coaching.

Neuheisel's coaching prowess was recognized in 2021 when he made 247Sports' 30Under30 list as one of the nation's top young coaches. In his first season as wide receivers coach and fourth on staff, Kyle Philips led the Pac-12 with 10 touchdowns through the air. His run ended with him sitting at fourth on UCLA's all-time catch list with 163 catches.

Early Coaching Career at Texas A&M

Neuheisel started his coaching career at Texas A&M, where he served as an offensive quality control coach alongside offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone. In 2017, he helped then-freshmen signal callers Kellen Mond and Nick Starkel put on record-setting displays, laying the foundation for his coaching success.
