UMBC Women's Basketball Travels to George Mason on Friday for a Game

The UMBC Women's Basketball team, after a 12-day break for finals, is all set to take on George Mason in a 2 p.m. game on Friday. This team enters the contest on a remarkable three-game winning streak, with Jaden Walker leading the way. Walker was named the America East Player of the Week last Monday and has been in outstanding form. In a 2-0 week, she averaged 14 points on 58% shooting and 10.5 rebounds per game. Her performance against Saint Francis on 12/8 was particularly impressive, with 15 points and 13 rebounds. She also had 13 points and 8 rebounds in the upset win over CAA power Towson on 12/4, which was the first UMBC win over Towson since 2010. Against SFU, she tied a career high in both points and rebounds in the 61-45 triumph, giving UMBC (6-4) five Division 1 non-conference wins this season, the most since 2015. Alongside Walker, Jaliena Sanchez had 13 points, five rebounds, three steals and an assist, Jordon Lewis added 10 points and eight rebounds, and Carmen Yánez had a game-best six assists in the winning effort. Tiara Bellamy, Laura Lacambra and Lauren Thompson also contributed with six points each off the bench.UMBC's Recent Success and Player Standouts

They topped the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks in a Saturday afternoon matchup, 61-40, to move to 10-1 for the first time in program history. The only loss GMU suffered was a 66-56 neutral site loss to #8 Maryland. In the game against UMES, it was a slow start for both teams, with no one scoring for the first 3:10. However, sophomore Kennedy Harris broke the ice with a three-pointer and then hit another one just a minute later. Harris scored the first 10 points of the game and the Patriots held the Hawks scoreless in the first quarter. By halftime, the Hawks had scored eight points, tying the Patriots’ record for fewest points by an opponent in a half. Louis Volker and Kennedy Harris were the driving forces for the Green & Gold, with Volker having 12 points at the half and Harris having 10. In the second half, with a comfortable lead, the Patriots looked to their bench and 11 players tallied double-digit minutes. Louis Volker tied a career-high 14 points in 19 minutes of play, shooting 50% from the floor, while Kennedy Harris finished with 13 points in 20 minutes of play, including 3-4 from three and 4-4 from the free throw line. The Patriots held the Hawks scoreless in the first quarter and forced the visitors into 28 turnovers.Looking Ahead for Both Teams
