The project aims to replace the existing Paul Laird Field, which has been hosting the Southeastern Savage Storm and Durant Lions teams since 1939. After decades of successful football seasons, including 17 conference championships, the university is set to embark on an exciting new chapter. The unveiling ceremony took place at Bloomer Sullivan Arena, where detailed blueprints of the upcoming stadium were presented. Among the highlights is a new seating area and a three-story press box dedicated to John Massey, father of First United Bank CEO Greg Massey. John has been an avid supporter of both teams since the 1950s, first as a player and later as an alumnus. Greg Massey emphasized the significance of honoring his father’s legacy through this donation, stating that it would be a fitting tribute to someone who held the school dear to his heart.
