Warriors Rise to Top of Section 3-4A with Impressive Performances
2025-01-21

The Elizabeth Forward Warriors have emerged as formidable contenders in the race for the Section 3-4A title. Under the guidance of Coach Nolan Larry, now in his third season, the team has shown remarkable resilience and teamwork. After starting the season behind Derry and Belle Vernon, the Warriors have surged forward with a series of decisive victories. This turnaround began with an impressive comeback against Derry, where they overcame an early deficit to secure a crucial 57-52 win. This victory not only handed Derry their first section loss but also leveled the playing field among the top teams. The momentum continued as Elizabeth Forward faced Southmoreland, dominating from the start and securing a commanding 66-30 win.

A well-balanced offensive strategy has been key to the Warriors' success. Rather than relying on just one or two standout players, the team has demonstrated depth and versatility. Sophomore guard Tyler Basic has been a standout performer, leading the charge with 25 points against Derry. Other notable contributions came from senior forward Cy Herchelroth and sophomore forward James Gile, each adding 10 points. In the game against Southmoreland, junior guard Daniel Spence took the lead with 16 points, while Basic and Gile once again contributed significantly. The team's balanced scoring has made them a tough opponent to defend against, with Basic averaging 19.3 points per game, followed closely by Spence at 16.4 ppg, Herchelroth at 13.8 ppg, and Gile at 12.3 ppg.

The 2025 Elizabeth Forward boys basketball team is aiming for a historic achievement that has eluded them for nearly two decades. The last time the Warriors claimed a section title was in 2006 when they topped Section 4-3A. Now, with all three top teams tied for first place, the stage is set for an intense finish. The Warriors are determined to build on their current success and make this season one to remember. Their strong performances and unwavering spirit exemplify the power of teamwork and perseverance, setting a positive example for aspiring athletes everywhere.
