2025-04-09

The Wichita State men’s tennis team faced a tough match against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, ultimately succumbing to a 4-0 defeat. The encounter took place at Greenwood Tennis Center on Wednesday evening, where the Cowboys showcased their dominance right from the doubles segment. Oklahoma State managed to secure an early advantage by prevailing in both the second and third doubles matches with decisive 6-3 victories, thereby capturing the crucial doubles point.

In the singles competition, the Cowboys maintained their momentum, seizing control across most of the courts. Kristof Minarik was the first player to face defeat, falling short against Oklahoma State’s Isaac Becroft, ranked No. 84, with scores of 6-2 and 6-4. Alejandro Jacome followed shortly after, as Oklahoma State extended their lead to 3-0 through another convincing performance. The match concluded when Ilias Worthington met a similar fate, resulting in a final scoreline that left no room for Wichita State to recover.

Moving forward with renewed determination, the Shockers are set to travel eastward to Murfreesboro, Tennessee. There, they will engage in battle against Middle Tennessee State University, currently ranked No. 44, on April 13 at noon local time. This upcoming contest presents an opportunity for the team to regroup and demonstrate resilience, reflecting the spirit of sportsmanship and continuous improvement inherent in competitive athletics. Such experiences underscore the value of perseverance and adaptability in overcoming challenges, whether on or off the court.
