Women's Tennis Prepares for Spring Challenges with Tough Schedule

The Saint Joseph’s women’s tennis team is gearing up for an exciting spring season. Head coach Jeff Puhan has revealed the team’s schedule, which promises to be a test of their skills and determination. This upcoming season will be a challenging one for this young team, as they will face five nationally-ranked opponents and eight Atlantic 10 opponents along the way.
Opening with City Rivalries
The Hawks will kick off their spring season with a pair of city rivalries. On January 20, they will visit Penn, a long-time rival. Just a few days later, on January 24, they will host Temple at Springton Tennis Club. These matches will set the tone for the rest of the season and give the team a chance to showcase their skills against local opponents.Two more home matches at Springton follow with Seton Hall and Loyola Maryland. These matches will provide the team with valuable experience playing in front of their home crowd. After that, on February 14, they will take a trip to NJIT. This will be a chance for the team to test themselves against a different opponent and gain some perspective on their own progress.Home and Away Matches in February
Hofstra comes to Springton on February 21, providing another home match for the Hawks. This will be an opportunity for the team to build on their momentum and continue to improve. After that, they will visit Lehigh and host Delaware State to close out the month. These matches will be crucial in determining the team’s standing in the Atlantic 10 conference.Conference Matches and Spring Break TrainingThe Hawks will then host conference foe Duquesne on March 2 at the SJU Tennis Complex. This will be an important home match as they look to build their conference record. After that, they will embark on a Spring Break training trip to Boca Raton, Florida. This will give the team a chance to train in a different environment and prepare for the challenges ahead.Home and Away Matches in MarchThree home matches await the Hawks after the break. On March 7, George Washington will visit Hawk Hill. This will be a chance for the team to play against a strong opponent and test their skills. Both Coppin State and Le Moyne are on the docket for March 15, providing the team with more opportunities to gain experience and improve.The Hawks then play four of the next five away from home. They will visit Villanova before hosting Rider. This will be a tough stretch for the team, as they will be playing on the road against tough opponents. After that, they will travel to St. Bonaventure to take on both the Bonnies and Dayton, and then visit Bucknell to close out March.April Home and Away MatchesSJU opens April with a home match against Delaware. This will be a chance for the team to build on their momentum and continue to improve. They will then visit Drexel and George Mason. These matches will be important in determining the team’s standing as they head into the final stretch of the season.A home match against the U.S. Naval Academy precedes a trip to the capital of Virginia to take on both VCU and Richmond. These matches will be a great test for the team as they look to finish the season strong. Finally, a visit from Fordham will close out the regular season.Atlantic 10 ChampionshipThe Atlantic 10 Championship will once again be held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, from April 24-27. The Hawks are hoping to use the challenges of the regular season to prepare for a run in the tournament. “We will be tested and should be prepared for the Atlantic 10 Championship in April,” Puhan said. “It is definitely going to be an exciting season!”
