2025 UTRGV Men's Tennis Spring Schedule with Key Matches

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has recently announced the highly anticipated 2025 spring schedule for the Vaqueros men's tennis team. This schedule holds great significance as it presents a series of challenging matches that will test the team's skills and determination. With 25 matches on the docket, the Vaqueros are set to face off against five opponents who finished the 2024 season within the top 75 rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Introduction to the Vaqueros' 2025 Schedule
The spring schedule kicks off with a road doubleheader at Oklahoma State on Jan. 11, setting the tone for an exciting season. Following this, the team makes a trip to Austin to take on the 2024 national runner-up Texas on Jan. 15. This early stretch of road matches will provide valuable experience and a chance for the Vaqueros to showcase their abilities.They then embark on a series of matches at Rice, UTSA, and Abilene Christian, building momentum before heading to Lubbock for a trio of crucial contests. UTRGV faces Texas Tech on Jan. 31 and opens February with neutral site matches against New Mexico State and Lubbock Christian. These matches will offer diverse competition and help the team prepare for the challenges ahead.Home Matches at the Orville Cox Tennis Center
The Vaqueros' first home match at the Orville Cox Tennis Center is slated for Feb. 9 against Prairie View A&M (PVAMU). This provides an opportunity for the local fans to come out and support the team in their own backyard. The following week, on Feb. 13, UTRGV hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first of two contests in the South Texas Showdown, presented by Rally Credit Union. Although both teams are now in the Southland Conference (SLC), this match will be considered non-conference, adding an extra element of excitement.Road Trips and California Adventure
After the South Texas Showdown, the Vaqueros close out February at SMU before a doubleheader in Waco on March 1 featuring matches against Baylor and Illinois. This road trip will take them to different parts of the country, exposing the team to new environments and opponents. In March, UTRGV embarks on a California road trip from March 7-10, with matches against St. Mary’s College, UC Davis, Sacramento State, and UC Riverside. These matches will provide a unique experience and a chance for the team to test their skills against different styles of play.Closing the Regular Season in the Southland Conference
The regular season concludes with five SLC matches. The Vaqueros start on the road, playing at New Orleans and Nicholls from March 22-24. They then host Lamar and Incarnate Word on April 5 and 7, respectively. The final regular season match will be on April 12 at Corpus Christi in a South Texas Showdown match. These SLC matches will determine the team's standing in the conference and set the stage for the Southland Conference Tennis Championships.The Southland Conference Tennis Championships will run from April 22-26 at Nicholls' facilities in Thibodaux, La. This is a crucial event where the top teams in the conference will compete for the championship. The NCAA Team Championships follow from May 15-18 in Waco, offering the Vaqueros a chance to make a deep run in the national tournament.Coach Nathan Robinson is excited about the schedule, stating, "I am very excited about our schedule. We will be tested against some of the best programs, players and coaches in Texas and across the country. This will definitely have us primed and prepared to take on the Southland Conference. We will also have a great opportunity to show our brand across the country and get our student-athletes the opportunity to travel and experience other parts of the United States.
