First Half Highlights
The first half of the game was a tightly contested affair. Syracuse and Albany traded baskets, with the score remaining relatively close. However, Syracuse gradually began to assert its dominance. Kyle Cuffe, who typically plays sparingly, scored 10 points in the first half without missing a shot. His play, along with a Syracuse offense that found creative ways to get good looks in the paint, helped the team lead 38-28 with 3:49 remaining. Cuffe knocked down a pair at the line, Eddie Lampkin threw a touch pass to Davis for the dunk, and Cuffe finished with contact in transition, reaching ten points off the bench. Elijah Moore also had a significant impact, following up his own missed shot, grabbing the rebound, and knocking down another jumper. Bell scored inside for his second basket, and Petar Majstorovic scored a short jumper from about 10 feet out.
Despite Syracuse's early lead, Albany fought back and the score was tied at 14-14 with 11:40 remaining. Jyare Davis bulled his way inside to finish off the drop-step move for six early points. Elijah Moore then followed up his own miss with a rebound and another jumper. Chris Bell scored inside for his second basket as well. However, three Syracuse turnovers in the first two and a half minutes against an Albany team that wasn't particularly strong on defense gave Albany some momentum.
Second Half Explosion
The second half saw Syracuse continue to score at a high rate. The home team led by as much as 24 points during the contest. Freeman, who came off the bench, was a key contributor. He knocked down his third triple of the contest, bringing his total to 3-3 from beyond the arc. Coming into the game, he had only made three triples throughout the entire season. Moore drove and found Freeman for the slam dunk, and Freeman continued to shine with another triple, taking his total to 22 points on the evening.
Lucas Taylor twisted and turned to put up a shot while drawing a foul. Freeman hit his second 3 of the night off a feed from Carlos, who now had nine assists. Freeman used the shot fake to let his defender fly by before finishing with the slam. The freshman's performance was remarkable as he was not in the starting lineup. Bell also got going in the second half, finishing with 18 points. Jyare Davis, who started in place of Freeman, scored 15 points.
Jaquan Carlos had a standout performance, ending the game with a season-high 12 assists along with 12 points. A lot of the baskets scored were credited to him. Amar'e Marshall led the Great Danes in scoring with 18 points, but Syracuse's defense was able to limit his impact.
Final Score and Series Dominance
The Orange had its best offensive game of the season, shooting over 60% from the field, 40% from 3, and hitting just less than 90% of its foul shots. They defeated their upstate New York rival, the University at Albany Great Danes, 102-85. This victory makes Syracuse a perfect 9-0 in a series that dates back over 100 years. Syracuse's dominance on their home court was evident, as they have played their best basketball on the Dome floor, winning all four of their home games this season.
