Alabama football made a significant addition on Monday as former Cal long-snapper David Bird committed to the Crimson Tide. Bird, who spent two seasons with Cal, announced the news on social media, highlighting his excitement to join the team.

Alabama's Special Teams Get a Reliable Addition

David Bird's Journey to Alabama

Coming out of high school, David Bird was highly regarded as the No. 1 long-snapper in the 2023 class according to Kohl’s Professional Camps. Standing at six feet and weighing 210 pounds, he had already set a high standard. His dominance was evident as he started every game at long snapper for Cal this season without a single errant snap. Even as a freshman, he saw significant playing time off the bench and was equally error-free with 59 snap attempts.

After spending two seasons with the Bears, Bird entered the transfer portal and now finds himself a part of the Alabama football family. His commitment is a big boost for the team, especially considering the departure of current long-snapper Kneeland Hibbett, who was a semifinalist for the Mannelly Award.

Impact on Alabama's Special Teams

With Bird's arrival, Alabama fills a significant gap on special teams for the 2025 squad. His reliability is crucial as he will be responsible for a key position. Coach Kalen DeBoer and special teams coordinator Jay Nunez saw something special in Bird and offered him this amazing opportunity.

As Alabama prepares for its Dec. 31 appearance in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Michigan, Bird's addition gives the team an extra edge. His experience and consistency will be valuable as they take on one of the top teams in the country. The game is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. CT in Tampa and will be aired on ESPN, and fans are excited to see what Bird can bring to the table.
