Alex Ferguson's Double Win at Newbury Continues His Remarkable Run
2024-11-29
On Friday, Sir Alex Ferguson's remarkable journey as a co-owner of an ever-growing team of racehorses took another exciting turn. Regent's Stroll and Kalif Du Berlais achieved a double in the first two races of Newbury's winter carnival meeting, adding significant value to the syndicates in which Ferguson is involved.

Unparalleled Prize Money Earnings

The victories brought in about £19,000 to the prize money earnings of these syndicates during the current National Hunt season. It's just a fraction of the £472,000 won by Spirit Dancer, Ferguson's best Flat horse, in the Bahrain International Trophy earlier this month. These young and improving horses hold almost limitless potential, as evidenced by their quotes for races at Cheltenham's festival meeting in March.

Regent's Stroll's Promising Future

After three starts and remaining unbeaten, Regent's Stroll's success in the opening maiden hurdle was particularly sweet for his trainer, Paul Nicholls. There was a concern that the five-year-old might leave the yard when Chris Giles, the former owner, dispersed his racing interests earlier in the year. However, a four-strong syndicate including Ferguson and his close friend, Ged Mason, paid £660,000 to keep Regent's Stroll in Nicholls's yard. Now, Regent's Stroll is priced at about 14-1 for the Turners Novice Hurdle on 12 March. This shows the high regard and potential of this talented horse.

Kalif Du Berlais' Comeback Victory

Kalif Du Berlais bounced back from a fall on his chasing debut to win a novice handicap chase. His victory has him priced at 50-1 for the Arkle Trophy Novice Chase the previous afternoon. This shows his resilience and ability to perform well even after setbacks. The fact that both these horses are young and have such promising futures is a testament to Ferguson's eye for talent and his ability to build a successful racing team.
