Leading the Way in 2025 - Villanova Baseball Captains

Luke McCullough - The Second-Season Star

Luke McCullough, a graduate transfer from Utah Valley State, is entering his second season with the Wildcats. In 2024, he had a remarkable 5-4 record. Appearing in 17 games with 12 starts, he showcased his pitching prowess with a team-best 48 strikeouts and a 5.20 ERA. His performances were particularly outstanding as he recorded five starts where he held opponents to just one run or less. His right-handed pitching skills have been a key asset to the team.

McCullough's journey to becoming a captain is a testament to his hard work and dedication. His experience and leadership on the mound will be crucial as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

Jason Neff - The Home Run Hero

Jason Neff tied for second among all Wildcats with nine home runs in 2024. Coming to the Main Line from Richmond ahead of the 2024 season, he has been a consistent presence in the lineup. Appearing in 50 out of 51 games and making 49 starts, Neff provides a powerful offensive punch. His ability to connect with the ball and send it over the fence has been a highlight of his game.

Neff's role as a captain will be vital in maintaining the team's offensive momentum. His leadership and hitting ability will inspire his teammates and help the team achieve success on the field.

Stephen Turzai - The Bullpen Ace

Stephen Turzai will begin his third season as a graduate student at Villanova after transferring from Franklin & Marshall. In 2024, he made 25 appearances out of the bullpen, posting a 1-1 record and an impressive 15 scoreless appearances. As a native of Wexford, Pa., Turzai has become a key player in the Wildcats' bullpen.

His reliability and ability to shut down opposing teams in crucial situations make him an invaluable asset. Turzai's leadership in the bullpen will help the team maintain its composure and secure victories.

Michael Whooley - The Undergraduate Leader

Michael Whooley, the only undergraduate player stepping into a leadership role, finished in the top five among all Wildcats in hits, home runs, RBIs, and doubles in 2024. From Wykoff, N.J., Whooley consistently created offensive opportunities for the team. His 32 walks and a.382 on-base percentage were team-best, demonstrating his ability to get on base and drive in runs.

Whooley's leadership as an undergraduate will inspire the younger players and set an example for them to follow. His all-around game and leadership skills will be crucial as the team looks to build on its success.

Villanova and its new captains will open the season at the Puerto Rico Challenge, where they will face Rice (Feb. 14), Virginia (Feb. 15), and Michigan (Feb. 16). This will be a great opportunity for the team to showcase their skills and leadership on a national stage.
