Full Serrano, the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner, has unfortunately encountered an injury that will keep him sidelined from the Grade 2 Laffit Pincay and the prestigious Group 1 Saudi Cup. This unexpected turn of events was initially reported by Brad Free of Daily Racing Form and has now been confirmed by a Santa Anita racing official to Horse Racing Nation. Trainer John Sadler remains tight-lipped about the specifics of the injury, only hinting to Brad Free that it is not a serious matter. Sadler anticipates that Full Serrano will be out of action for 60 days before resuming training at Santa Anita. He also expects the talented horse to return and compete in handicap-division races during the spring or summer.

About the Horse

Full Serrano is a remarkable 5-year-old stallion, sired by Full Mast and out of the Jump Start mare Serra Do Mar. Before being acquired by longtime Sadler owner Hronis Racing, he achieved four victories and placed in Group 3 races in his birth country of Argentina. In just three starts for Sadler at Del Mar, Full Serrano has emerged as one of the leading older dirt horses. He made a winning debut in allowance company on August 3. In the highly competitive Pacific Classic (G1), he came just half a length shy of victory with Mixto. Then, in a stunning upset, he won the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile on November 2. However, between the Pacific Classic and the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, he fell ill and had to miss a start in the California Crown (G1) at Santa Anita.

Impact on Racing Career

This injury poses a significant challenge to Full Serrano’s racing career. Missing out on the Grade 2 Laffit Pincay and the Group 1 Saudi Cup is a setback, but trainer John Sadler remains optimistic about his recovery. The 60-day absence will give the horse time to heal and regain his strength. Once he returns, he is expected to make a strong comeback in handicap-division races during the spring or summer. This setback also highlights the unpredictability of horse racing and the importance of proper care and management. It will be interesting to see how Full Serrano bounces back and continues to perform on the racetrack.

Future Prospects

Despite this injury, Full Serrano still holds great promise for the future. His previous performances have demonstrated his talent and ability as a dirt horse. With proper training and conditioning, he has the potential to achieve even greater success in the upcoming handicap-division races. The fact that he was able to win the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile despite the setback shows his resilience and determination. Horse racing fans will be eagerly awaiting his return and hoping to see him back at the top of his game. The injury may have temporarily derailed his career, but it has also added an element of suspense and excitement to his future races.
