Gregory's Proven Track Record in Georgia High School Football

Lenny Gregory brings a wealth of experience from his tenure in Georgia high school football. His journey began at Centennial High School in 2015, where he quickly established himself as a formidable coach. Over two seasons, Gregory led Centennial to a respectable 13-8 record, culminating in a first-round playoff appearance in 2016. This early success laid the foundation for his reputation as a strategic and effective leader.Moving forward, Gregory took the helm at Collins Hill High School, a Class 7A powerhouse, in 2017. During his six-year stint, he amassed an impressive 46-28 record. Notably, the 2020 season saw Collins Hill achieve a 12-3 record, clinching the region title. The following year, the Eagles soared to unprecedented heights with a 15-1 record, securing both the region and state championships. These achievements underscored Gregory’s ability to cultivate a winning culture and develop elite talent.

The Development of Elite Talent: Coaching Travis Hunter

One of the highlights of Gregory's career at Collins Hill was coaching Travis Hunter, now a standout player at Colorado University. Ranked as the top overall prospect in the class of 2021 by 247Sports, Hunter went on to win the Heisman Trophy in 2024. Gregory's guidance played a pivotal role in shaping Hunter into one of the most sought-after athletes in college football. This accomplishment not only elevated Collins Hill's profile but also demonstrated Gregory's knack for nurturing exceptional talent.

Overcoming Challenges at Gordon Central

In 2023, Gregory accepted the head coaching position at Gordon Central High School. Despite facing initial setbacks, including a challenging 0-10 season, Gregory showed resilience. By the next year, he had turned things around, guiding the Warriors to a more competitive 4-7 record. This turnaround showcased his adaptability and determination, qualities that will undoubtedly benefit the Commerce football program.

New Direction for Commerce Football

The decision to hire Lenny Gregory reflects Commerce's commitment to fostering growth and excellence within its football program. Former coach Mark Hollars, who had a successful four-year run with a 31-16 record and multiple playoff appearances, was replaced to introduce fresh leadership. Superintendent Billy Kirk emphasized the district's desire for a new direction to propel the program forward. With Gregory at the helm, Commerce aims to build a legacy of success and inspire future generations of athletes.
