In an effort to enhance financial literacy and confidence, South Dakota State University Extension has initiated a series of webinars titled “Financial Fireside Chats.” This complimentary six-week webinar series aims to provide valuable insights on various financial topics, catering to individuals of all age groups. The sessions will delve into critical areas such as preparing for unexpected weather events, understanding Medicare options, managing household responsibilities, protecting against fraud, saving money, and navigating student loan repayment. These discussions are designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and tools for better financial management.
The first part of this educational series focuses on equipping individuals with the skills needed to handle unpredictable financial situations. Participants will learn how to safeguard their finances from unexpected weather-related challenges and make informed decisions about healthcare coverage. Moreover, they will explore effective methods to distribute household duties and collaborate within families.
The opening session on March 11, 2025, will offer a comprehensive guide on financially preparing for unforeseen weather events. Attendees will gain insights into strategies that can mitigate financial impacts caused by climate changes. On March 18, the discussion will shift towards understanding Medicare eligibility and exploring key decision-making points. Finally, on March 25, participants will discover a system for fairly dividing household tasks, fostering greater family cooperation and efficiency in managing daily chores.
The latter half of the webinar series emphasizes strengthening personal finance security and planning for long-term financial goals. Participants will learn to recognize fraudulent activities and adopt preventive measures. They will also uncover effective ways to adjust spending habits and achieve savings targets. Additionally, the series will cover recent developments in student loan repayment plans, offering guidance on application processes and management techniques.
On April 1, attendees will be educated on identifying and avoiding scams and frauds, ensuring their financial safety. The following week, on April 8, the focus will be on fool-proof strategies to save money, providing three actionable steps to improve financial health. Lastly, on April 15, the webinar will address significant changes in student loan repayment policies, guiding participants through new application procedures and offering tips for efficient loan management. This series aims to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary for confident financial stewardship.
