Empowering the Eskymo Baseball Team Through Community Engagement
A Vibrant Marketplace for Local Artisans
The Escanaba High School craft and vendor show has become a highly anticipated event, drawing in over 120 vendors from the local community and beyond. These vendors, skilled in a wide range of crafts and specialties, come to the show to showcase their handmade products and connect with a steady stream of enthusiastic shoppers. From unique bags and baked treats to captivating home decor, the event offers a diverse array of offerings that cater to the diverse interests of the attendees.Deanna Lawson, the Escanaba Baseball Booster Board Secretary, emphasizes the appeal of this event for the vendors. "It is one of the better ones," Lawson said. "They know the crowd is steady throughout the whole day, be able to sell the stuff they worked so hard to make, and be able to have a good start to their craft season." The event's reputation for attracting a consistent and engaged audience has made it a highly sought-after opportunity for local artisans and entrepreneurs.Student-Athlete Involvement: A Mutually Beneficial Partnership
The Escanaba High School baseball team plays an active role in the success of the craft and vendor show. The student-athletes work alongside the crafters, assisting with the logistics of the event. "They help bring all their stuff in the building and help them take everything out they might have left at the end of the show," Lawson explained. "They love that feature that they have help, that they don't have to haul everything themselves."This collaboration not only provides valuable support to the vendors but also fosters a sense of community and teamwork among the student-athletes. Alex Ison, a sophomore on the Escanaba High School baseball team, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to give back to the community that supports them. "It's nice cause when the community helps us, then we can go back and represent them on the baseball field," Ison said. "We just go all out for them."A Vital Fundraiser for the Eskymo Baseball Team
The Escanaba High School baseball team is self-funded, and the craft and vendor show serves as its largest fundraiser. The event's proceeds help cover essential expenses, such as travel, umpire fees, and field maintenance, allowing the team to focus on their athletic pursuits without the burden of financial constraints.Lawson emphasizes the importance of the community's support in ensuring the team's success. "I mean it's awesome, like everyone coming out, like all the vendors, everyone coming to support and just really help us for the season, so we don't have to worry about that and just play baseball," she said. The Escanaba High School community has rallied behind its baseball team, recognizing the value of providing the student-athletes with the resources they need to excel both on and off the field. The craft and vendor show has become a testament to the power of community engagement and the positive impact it can have on the lives of young athletes.
