Former LSU Wide Receiver Kyren Lacy Passes Away at 24
2025-04-13

The sports world is mourning the unexpected loss of Kyren Lacy, a former wide receiver for Louisiana State University (LSU). The university's athletic department announced his death on Sunday. Just 24 years old, Lacy was a promising athlete with a bright future ahead of him. Known for his exceptional skills on the field, he recently faced legal challenges following a serious car accident in December that resulted in one fatality and two injuries. His untimely passing has left a profound impact on his family, friends, former teammates, and coaches.

Grieving the Loss of a Rising Star

In a sorrowful turn of events, Kyren Lacy was found deceased in Houston early Sunday morning. The circumstances surrounding his death remain undisclosed by the university or local authorities as investigations continue. Lacy had been involved in a tragic automobile incident on December 17 in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, where his reckless driving led to the death of a 78-year-old man and injured two others. Charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle, Lacy surrendered to authorities in January and was released on bail.

According to police reports, Lacy was operating a 2023 Dodge Charger at high speeds while illegally overtaking vehicles in a no-passing zone. This caused another driver to swerve into oncoming traffic, resulting in a fatal collision. A grand jury was set to review the case starting Monday, but Lacy’s passing has brought this matter to an abrupt halt.

Hailing from Thibodaux, Louisiana, Lacy joined LSU after transferring from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Over the past three seasons, he became a standout player, tying for the most receiving touchdowns in the Southeastern Conference last season with nine scores. Throughout his collegiate career, Lacy accumulated 112 receptions for 1,692 yards and 16 touchdowns.

As news of Lacy's passing spreads, it serves as a poignant reminder of life's fragility and the importance of accountability. Despite facing legal troubles, Lacy remained hopeful about his future, even declaring his intention to enter the 2025 NFL Draft just days after the accident. His legacy will forever be remembered through his contributions to LSU football and the lives he touched both on and off the field. This tragedy underscores the need for empathy, understanding, and support for those navigating difficult circumstances.
