Georgia Tech Celebrates 50 Years of Women's Basketball with Fundraising Initiatives
2025-01-19

The Georgia Tech women's basketball program is commemorating a significant milestone this season. As the team marks its 50th anniversary, it continues to offer affordable ticket options for fans to enjoy the action. Single-game tickets start at just $10 for general admission and $12 for reserved seating, while youth tickets are available for $8 on game day. Group packages for 10 or more attendees can be purchased at $5 per ticket. Fans have multiple ways to secure their seats, including online purchases and direct contact with the athletic association.

This year holds special significance as it celebrates five decades of women's basketball at Georgia Tech. The program began in 1974-75 under the guidance of Coach Jim Culpepper, initially competing within the Georgia Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (GAIAW). By 1979-80, the team had joined the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Over the years, Georgia Tech has achieved numerous accolades, such as 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, two Sweet 16 berths, and nine WNBA draft picks. Notably, the Yellow Jackets won the National Women’s Invitational Tournament in 1992, marking their first postseason victory. Under Head Coach Nell Fortner, the team has seen three postseason appearances in the past five years.

To further elevate the athletics program, Georgia Tech has launched "Full Steam Ahead," an ambitious $500 million fundraising campaign. This initiative aims to enhance various facilities, including renovations to Bobby Dodd Stadium, Zelnak Basketball Center, and O’Keefe Gymnasium. These improvements will provide state-of-the-art resources for athletes and boost the overall competitiveness of the university's sports teams. Members of the Georgia Tech community can explore detailed information about the projects and contribute through designated platforms.

The celebration of the women's basketball program's 50-year journey underscores the commitment to excellence both on and off the court. With ongoing support from fans and the community, Georgia Tech looks forward to continuing its legacy of success and innovation in intercollegiate athletics. The upcoming season promises exciting moments and milestones, reflecting the dedication and passion that have defined the program over the years.
