Google Launches NotebookLM for Enterprises with Added Features
2024-12-13
In October, Google initiated a pilot of a version of NotebookLM, its highly popular AI note-taking and research app designed specifically for businesses. Now, the company is extending the reach of NotebookLM to the enterprise sector, incorporating work-centric security and privacy attributes.

Unlock Enterprise Potential with Google's NotebookLM

NotebookLM for Enterprises - NotebookLM Plus

The NotebookLM for enterprises, which Google has named NotebookLM Plus, offers the same user experience as the consumer version. However, it comes with additional controls for access and data management. Employees can upload data and files to generate notebooks, create podcast-like audio summaries (known as Audio Overviews), and perform various other tasks. They can also search across and share these projects with organizational members. This enterprise version brings several benefits. It provides five times more podcast-like audio summaries, notebooks, and data sources per notebook. Users have the ability to customize the style and tone of AI-generated notebook responses. Additionally, there are shared team notebooks with usage analytics.

Integration with Agentspace

NotebookLM for enterprises is an integral part of Agentspace, Google Cloud's new platform for AI-powered "agents." It is being launched in early access today. In Agentspace, NotebookLM operates alongside agents that can analyze documents and emails, translate files, and access data from third-party repositories. Users can launch and search for agents through a single interface. Soon, they will be able to build custom agents using a low-code tool, as Google has announced. For business, school, university, and enterprise NotebookLM users who do not wish to sign up for Agentspace, NotebookLM Plus is also available in Google Workspace (within the Gemini for Workspace plan). Alternatively, organizational users can purchase NotebookLM Plus separately through Google Cloud.Starting early next year, NotebookLM Plus will be accessible to individual users who subscribe to Google's $20-a-month Google One AI Premium plan.NotebookLM is one of Google's most prominent AI-powered products in recent times.Months after its launch, NotebookLM gained significant attention on social media due to its audio-generation feature. This feature creates a realistic-sounding, back-and-forth dialogue between two synthetic podcast hosts using a source video or audio file, URL, or document.Since then, the podcast-like audio generator in NotebookLM has been replicated multiple times. Additionally, the key leaders behind the app have left the company. However, Google continues to enhance NotebookLM with new functionalities. For example, on Friday, NotebookLM underwent a redesign. The app's tools are now organized across three panels: a Sources panel for managing imported information, a Chat panel for discussing that information through a conversational interface, and a Studio panel that enables users to create items (such as study guides, briefing documents, and podcast-like audio) with a single click. In another area of NotebookLM, a new experimental feature allows users to "join" the conversation in podcast-like audio. They can do this by asking the synthetic hosts for more details or to expand on a concept. Here's how it works: A user creates a new Audio Overview. They tap the "Interactive mode (beta)" button. While listening, they tap Join, and a host will call on them. The user can then ask a question, and the hosts will provide a personalized answer based on their data sources. After answering, the hosts will resume their back-and-forth conversation. It's important to note that this feature is currently only available in English and may not work with existing Audio Overviews. Also, the hosts may pause awkwardly before responding or occasionally introduce inaccuracies. As always, it is advisable for users to verify the answers provided by AI-powered tools, whether they are in podcast-like format or not.TechCrunch offers an AI-focused newsletter.
