Friday at Del Mar, Race 7

Last year's Del Mar Debutante (G1) winner Tamara made a comeback after a one-year layoff in a six-furlong $100,000 allowance optional claimer at Churchill Downs. She settled 2 1/2 lengths behind the opening quarter-mile in 22.14 seconds but advanced steadily and finished second by a nose against pacesetter Sandy Bottom, crossing the finish line in 1:10.06. This is a promising effort that Tamara can build upon, making her worth keeping an eye on.After the race, Tamara showed no signs of fatigue and seemed ready to take on more challenges. Her determination and ability to come back strong after a layoff are qualities that make her a horse to watch in the future.

Saturday at Churchill Downs, Race 3

Guns Loaded is a new addition to the watch list after impressively winning a six-furlong maiden special weight. Trained by Jose D’Angelo, he entered off a runner-up finish in his debut at Saratoga, where he recovered from a stumbling start to press the pace and finish second against Dapper Moon. In his second start, Guns Loaded broke much better and opened up a daylight lead through quick fractions of 21.42 and 44.73 seconds. His early pursuers faded, but he kept going and won by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:09.90, earning a sharp 88 Beyer Speed Figure. This performance suggests that Guns Loaded is a serious contender on the road to the Kentucky Derby.Guns Loaded's ability to handle different racing conditions and his consistent improvement make him a horse with a lot of potential. His trainer, Jose D’Angelo, has shown great skill in preparing him for these races, and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the future.

Saturday at Del Mar, Race 2

Silent Law suffered her first defeat from three starts when finishing second in the seven-furlong Desi Arnaz. She dueled with eventual winner Practical Dream through an opening quarter-mile in 22.50 seconds, dropped back to second place by as many as two lengths, and then re-rallied in the final furlong to finish 1 1/4 lengths behind. Despite the loss, Silent Law put forth a good effort and showed her fighting spirit.Silent Law's performance in this race demonstrated her tenacity and ability to compete at a high level. She has shown promise in her previous races and with a little more experience, she could become a force to be reckoned with in the future.

Sunday at Del Mar, Race 8

McKinzie Street engaged in a three-way duel through blazing fractions of 21.63 and 43.93 seconds in the seven-furlong Bob Hope (G3), but he understandably tired and finished third by 7 1/2 lengths against two stretch-runners. After three straight defeats, it's time to remove McKinzie Street from the watch list.McKinzie Street's early efforts showed promise, but he struggled to maintain his speed in the later stages of the race. It's important to give horses time to recover and regroup, and perhaps McKinzie Street will be back in form in the future.
