2025-01-17

In the upcoming weekend, Harvard women’s tennis team will embark on its 2025 dual season by traveling to Waco, Texas, for a match against Baylor University. The encounter is scheduled for Sunday, January 19, at noon Eastern Time. This marks the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and challenging year for the Crimson team, following their remarkable achievements in 2024.

Preparation and Expectations for the New Season

The Harvard women’s tennis team concluded the previous year on a high note, achieving a record of 19-5, tying for second place in the Ivy League, and making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2010. The team's impressive performance included a program-record 14-match winning streak mid-season. During the fall, they demonstrated exceptional skill, securing 27 singles victories and an outstanding 27-7 doubles record.

Among the standout players are Stephanie Yakoff and Kavya Karra, who ranked No. 66 in doubles, along with other notable pairs such as Karra and Rachel Arbitman at No. 75, and Angel You and Anna-Raphaëlle Serghi at No. 117. Karra and Yakoff also achieved historical success by becoming the eighth duo in program history to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships, a feat not seen since 2006. Karra excelled in singles play, finishing the fall season with an impressive 8-1 record.

Historically, Harvard has faced Baylor four times without a win, most recently on February 8, 2023, where they narrowly lost 2-5. Despite this, the team remains determined and focused on improving their performance this time around.

Looking Ahead

Following the match against Baylor, the Crimson will continue their journey to Athens, Georgia, for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. There, they will face Princeton in the opening round on Saturday, January 25, at 11:00 a.m. ET. With high expectations and a strong foundation from the previous season, the team aims to build on their successes and make significant strides in the new year.

From a spectator’s perspective, it is clear that the Harvard women’s tennis team has set the stage for an exhilarating season. Their dedication and recent accomplishments suggest that they are well-prepared to take on any challenges ahead. Fans and followers can look forward to witnessing the team’s continued growth and potential breakthroughs in both individual and team performances.
