How Kentucky's 2024 Transfers Are Faring with Their New Teams
2024-12-17
In the past Spring, the Kentucky basketball program underwent a remarkable transformation. John Calipari, who had been with the program for 15 seasons, departed for Arkansas. Former Wildcats player Mark Pope was then hired to take his place. Pope has truly excelled, and after defeating Louisville, his team stands at 10 - 1 and holds the fourth position in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Starting from Scratch

Pope didn't inherit a well-stocked roster. In fact, he had to build from the ground up. Every former player either chose to enter the NBA or decided to transfer. Only Travis Perry remained committed to Kentucky; all other recruits decommitted and went elsewhere.Several of those players followed Calipari to Arkansas, but not all. Aaron Bradshaw headed to Ohio State, and star recruit Jayden Quaintance landed at Arizona State. Of course, many became Razorbacks. Now, let's take a look at how these players are faring at their new schools and how their 2024 - 25 seasons are progressing.

Adou Thiero - Arkansas Razorbacks

Guard Adou Thiero has emerged as a leading force at Arkansas. He is playing an impressive 29 minutes per game and averaging 18 points and 6 rebounds. His skills were evident at Kentucky, and now he has truly become a star in his junior season. He shows great determination and skill on the court, constantly making plays that contribute to the team's success.

D.J. Wagner - Arkansas Razorbacks

D.J. Wagner has witnessed a significant improvement in his shooting this year. He is now making 41% of his three-point attempts, which is a remarkable feat. His confidence on the court has grown, and he has become a steady point guard for Coach Cal. There is still room for him to develop and reach even greater heights. He has a unique ability to read the game and make the right decisions at the right time.

Zvonimir Ivisic - Arkansas Razorbacks

Zvonimir Ivisic provided some exciting moments during his time at Kentucky, but his playing time was inconsistent. However, this year, his minutes have increased, and so have his numbers. He is averaging 9.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, while hitting an impressive 50% of his shots from beyond the arc. His shooting touch has become a valuable asset for the team.

Aaron Bradshaw - Ohio State Buckeyes

Through four games, Aaron Bradshaw was averaging 8 points and 5 rebounds per game. But then, he missed five games due to an off-court incident and is still working his way back into the team's rotation. As a former five-star recruit, his talent is undeniable. If he can stay focused and put it all together, he has the potential to become a dominant player.

Ugona Onyenso - Kansas State Wildcats

While at Kentucky, Ugonna Onyenso showed an instinct for blocking shots, but his offensive game needed more development. At Kansas State, he hasn't yet taken that next step. He is averaging just 3 points and 3 boards per game, playing only 8 minutes per contest. There is still time for him to improve and showcase his full potential.

Jordan Burks - Georgetown Hoyas

At Kentucky, Jordan Burks was buried on the depth chart, playing just seven minutes per game. But at Georgetown, his minutes have increased to over 17 per game, and he is averaging nearly six points and three rebounds. He has found more opportunities to showcase his skills and has made the most of them.

Jayden Quaintance - Arizona State Sun Devils

Jayden Quaintance was supposed to be the centerpiece of Kentucky's recruiting class, but instead, he is now at Arizona State. There, he is making a significant impact, averaging 8 points and 8 rebounds per game. His true strength lies on the defensive end, where he is blocking an impressive 3.4 shots per game, leading the Big12. His defensive presence is crucial for the team's success.

Boogie Fland - Arkansas Razorbacks

Boogie Fland has been one of the standout freshmen for Coach Cal. He is averaging 15.5 points and 5.7 assists per game while shooting nearly 40% from three-point range. His potential is immense, and he is only going to get better with more experience. He brings a dynamic energy to the team and is a key contributor.

Karter Knox - Arkansas Razorbacks

Karter Knox hasn't had the same level of impact as Fland at Arkansas, but he is definitely on the path to improvement. He is currently posting 5.6 points and 3 rebounds per game while playing about 15 minutes. With more time and development, he has the ability to become a more significant player.

Billy Richmond - Arkansas Razorbacks

Billy Richmond hasn't had as much playing time due to the presence of many talented backcourt players. But when he gets on the court, he shows his ability. He is averaging 5.5 points per game in 16 minutes. Given the chance, he has the potential to make a bigger impact.

Somto Cyril - Georgia Bulldogs

The Georgia Bulldogs have been a pleasant surprise, and Somto Cyril is a key part of that. He is playing about 15 minutes per game but is blocking two shots per game on the defensive end. On the offensive side, he is contributing over five points and four rebounds. His all-around game is valuable to the team.
