Unstoppable Aggies Dominate Rivalry with Back-to-Back Wins

First Game: Aggies Earn Road Victory in Albuquerque

In the first game at The Pit, the Aggies faced a tough challenge. Trailing 22-18 in the first quarter, they showed remarkable resilience. Their defense tightened in the second quarter, allowing New Mexico to make only 29.4% of their shots while the Aggies drained 61.5% of theirs. This shift gave them a 36-35 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, the Aggies truly took off, outscoring the Lobos 25-16. Senior guards Sylena Peterson and Loes Rozing played a crucial role. Peterson scored 10 points and Rozing made all four of her shots, adding 9 points. The Aggies' defense remained solid throughout, and in the even fourth quarter, they coasted to a 10-point victory. Senior guard Molly Kaiser led the way with 25 points on 7-for-9 shooting, while Rozing added 17 points and Peterson 17 more. Senior forward Fanta Gassama grabbed 13 rebounds, showing their all-round dominance.

This win was a significant milestone for the Aggies as it was their first road victory against the Lobos since 2015. It demonstrated their ability to perform well on the opponent's court and their determination to come out on top.

Second Game: Aggies Complete Sweep at Home

The second game was a tightly contested affair. In the first half, NM State held a slim 18-15 lead after the first quarter and led only 33-32 at halftime. New Mexico's Destinee Hooks cut the Lobos' deficit to one point with a layup five seconds before halftime. However, in the fourth quarter, the Aggies took control. They started the frame on a 9-2 run and outscored the Lobos 22-11 in the final 10 minutes. Making eight of their final 15 shots, they sealed the victory. Senior guard Kaiser scored 9 points in the fourth quarter, while Peterson added 6. Kaiser and Hooks went head-to-head, with Hooks finishing with 27 points. Kaiser ended the game with 30 points, giving her a total of 55 against the Lobos over the weekend. She was honored with Conference USA Player of the Week for her outstanding performances. Senior forward Gassama also had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The Aggies' back-to-back wins over the weekend not only completed their sweep but also marked an important moment in their basketball history. It showed their consistency and ability to perform well in both home and away games.
