Martina Navratilova: Trump's Inflation Promise a Lie
2024-12-13
Martina Navratilova, widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players ever, has been vocal about her opinions on various matters. Recently, her views on President-elect Donald Trump have drawn significant attention.

Trump's Inflation Claims and Navratilova's Response

The American tennis legend made her stance clear regarding Trump's claims of bringing inflation down. Navratilova, who has been outspoken about her political opinions since retirement, criticized Trump and the Republican party. In an interview, Trump expressed difficulty in bringing down the price of things once they're up. An account on X shared his quotes, stating, "Trump tells Time he’s not sure he can get the price of groceries down: ‘It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up. You know, it’s very hard.” To this, Navratilova responded with strong words, saying, "So can’t fix inflation? Didn’t he say many times I alone can fix it? Or I will fix it? Lying liar and the lies he lies about.” In his Republican nomination acceptance speech in July 2024, Trump had previously claimed that ‘inflation would vanish’ if he became President, saying, "Under my plan, incomes will skyrocket, inflation will vanish completely, jobs will come roaring back, and the middle class will prosper like never before.”

Tennis Career and Navratilova's Achievements

On the tennis courts, Martina Navratilova had an extraordinary career. Rising to fame in the 1980’s, she won a total of 18 major singles titles. Her dominance in doubles was equally remarkable, as she won a total of 42 Grand Slam doubles titles. She was ranked No.1 in the world for an astonishing 332 weeks in the singles discipline. Her skills and determination on the court made her a legend.

Navratilova's Labeling of Trump as a 'Wannabe Fascist'

Navratilova has been a consistent critic of Donald Trump and his policies. In October 2024, at the Madison Square Garden campaign rally in New York City, the rally came under fire for its alleged racist and misogynistic remarks. Navratilova joined the conversation and labeled Trump as a ‘wannabe fascist.’ She said, "After the abominable trump rally which was a carbon copy of the Nazi rally there in 1939 I think?-I truly cannot even think of being friends with anyone who would vote for the wannabe fascist named donald trump. Don’t even bother trying to make excuses for him.” She had previously labeled Trump a ‘psychopath’. In September, an X user wrote about Trump on theft, and Navratilova responded by writing, "As I have said many times before- trump is a psychopath by proxy. What a sick sick man.”
