Dan Illman's career in the racing world began in 1998 when he started at DRF. Over the years, he climbed the ranks, becoming a handicapper in 2000 and then being promoted to DRF.com handicapping editor in 2007. In 2016, he was named executive producer of DRF-TV. His work at DRF was highly regarded, and in 2020, he became DRF's mid-Atlantic correspondent. During his time at DRF, he authored "Betting Maidens & 2-Year-Olds" and produced the "Trip Handicapping" DVD. He also hosted DRF's daily video content, showcasing his diverse skills and expertise.
