All three sophomores truly lived up to the high expectations at the Chicago Elite Classic on Saturday. Among them, Davion Thompson's performance stood out. His ability to turn the tide in crucial moments was reminiscent of Jalen Brunson's time at Stevenson.

Thompson's Game-Changing Moments

In the fourth quarter against Kankakee, Thompson was a force to be reckoned with. When Kankakee was close, he responded with key plays. At the start of the fourth quarter, Kankakee trailed by two points, but Thompson hit a three-pointer to regain the lead. With 5:48 left and Kankakee leading 42-41, he scored the next two baskets to take the lead again. And when Kankakee scored with 1:22 left to cut the lead to 51-47, he scored on a driving layup. Thompson finished with 22 points and six rebounds, shooting 8 of 14 from the field.

Bolingbrook's Impact

Although Bolingbrook fell to No. 2 this week, it was more due to Kenwood's strong start than any struggles by the Raiders. Thompson and JT Pettigrew, who had 13 points and 15 rebounds against Kankakee, have been excellent this season. The team looks deeper than expected, with several players showing promise against Kankakee. However, the Raiders won't be at their best until Trey Brost and Jayden Madden return.

Thompson's Unique Ability

Warren sophomore Jaxon Davis often dominates the pace and flow of the game. But Thompson has a unique talent for stepping up at the end of games. His ability to make big plays when it matters most sets him apart. He provides a different dimension to the team and is a key contributor in crucial situations.

Other Notable Performances

Glenbard West had a big week, knocking off DeKalb, Hinsdale Central, and Stevenson. Logan Glover was the hero against Hinsdale Central, scoring 12 points and making two free throws with eight seconds left to secure the 42-40 win. Waukegan had an up and down start. They won at Warren on Wednesday, with Grayslake Central transfer Xavi Granville scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds, and Manley transfer Jaali Love adding 12 points and 12 rebounds. But they lost to Christ the King on Saturday. Aaron McClure and Darien Green had big games for Christ The King.

Curie's Consistency

It only took two weeks for Curie to prove the strength of its program. The Condors graduated the entire starting lineup from last season's city championship team and lost their top returning player, Derrick Dowdell, to Perspectives-Leadership. But coach Mike Oliver brought up his sophomore team from last season and they haven't missed a beat. The Condors knocked off Farragut and Lane this past week.Notable results from the week included Crane defeating Lindblom 68-61, Fenwick beating Nazareth 66-46, and Geneva winning over St. Francis 44-37. There were many other exciting games and individual performances throughout the week. Some of the top performances of the week included Athan Berchos from Andrew with 33 points in a 72-50 win vs. Argo, Derek Bishop from Mundelein with 29 points in a 58-46 win vs. Niles West, and Justin Bowen from Proviso West with 19 points and 9 rebounds in a 63-56 win vs. Lyons. These are just a few examples of the outstanding performances seen during this busy week.
