Mike Andrews: The New Head Coach of Lake Superior State Tennis Programs

Mike Andrews, hailing from Iron Mountain, Mich. in the Upper Peninsula, has recently been appointed as the next head coach of the Lake Superior State (LSSU) men’s and women’s tennis programs. This significant appointment was announced by LSSU Athletic Director Tory Lindley on Thursday. Andrews, a former LSSU student himself, played a crucial role on the tennis court as the No. 1 singles and doubles player. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in recreation management and a minor in business. With over 25 years of experience in the racquet industry, Andrews is certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) for both tennis and pickleball. His extensive background includes serving as an instructor, collegiate coach, director, and club manager in Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. He even held the position of director at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club in Grosse Pointe, Mich. Andrews has been deeply involved in community programs and events, actively participating with Buddy Up for Down Syndrome Athletes, Special Olympics Michigan, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. His dedication and achievements have been recognized, as he has been named the USPTA Midwest Professional of the Year and a USTA National Community Service Award winner. He also served as the former president of the USPTA Midwest Division and was a guest speaker at multiple conferences and workshops. Additionally, his family has a strong tennis background, with his wife Pam, daughter Jenay, and two sons Connor and Jordan all having competed at the collegiate level, and Pam and Jenay having done so at LSSU. Until Andrews’ official start date on Jan. 6, 2025, Chase Ward will continue to be the primary point of contact for the LSSU tennis programs.
