Navy Women's Tennis Gets ITA Rankings in Fall Season Closure

Navy's tennis prowess shines as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released the latest ITA Division I National Singles and Doubles Rankings. Senior Emily Tannenbaum leads the way with a notable 87th position in singles, while the team's doubles teams also make an impact. Tannenbaum and Parvathi Shanker are ranked 51st, and Tannenbaum with sophomore Olivia Fermo at 104th. Tannenbaum's remarkable achievements this fall include a 16-3 singles record, breaking program records and earning various honors.
Emily Tannenbaum's Fall Success
A three-time All-Patriot League First Team pick, Tannenbaum finished 12th in the 2024 ITA Atlantic Region's year-end singles rankings. During the fall, she continued her historic pace, amassing an outstanding 16-3 singles record. At the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, she broke program records for career singles and doubles wins. She also won the singles "A" draw at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational and was named Tournament MVP at the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic for the second time. Additionally, she advanced to the ITA Atlantic Regional singles round of 16 for the second straight year and earned the Patriot League's bid to the ITA Conference Masters Championship after going 4-0 in the league's qualifying tournament and posting a 1-1 performance in the newest ITA event.Tannenbaum and Fermo's Doubles Journey
As a key part of the Mids' Patriot League Championship squad last season, Tannenbaum and Fermo picked up where they left off this fall with a 6-2 record. They claimed the doubles "A" draw at the Bill & Sandra Moore Invitational and partnered to split two matches at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. After partnering to go undefeated in three matches at the San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic, classmates Tannenbaum and Shanker teamed up again at the Patriot League qualifying tournament and posted three more victories, earning a berth in the ITA Conference Masters Championship. They claimed their first two matches on the national stage but fell in the quarterfinals, just two wins shy of advancing to the NCAA Doubles Championship.Navy's two doubles teams are the first in program history to appear in the ITA's final fall doubles rankings. The only other Patriot League doubles team ranked this fall was Army's Julia Kelly and Jenna Sabile at No. 75. National rankings consist of the top-125 singles rankings and the top-125 doubles rankings. These rankings will remain the final until Feb. 5, and the first Division I Team Ranking will be released on Jan. 6.
