Background and Introduction

The University of Notre Dame's John P. and Catherine Murphy Head Baseball Coach Shawn Stiffler has made a strategic move by adding Adam Dofflemyer as a COACH Fellow and Director of Pitching Development. Dofflemyer's expertise and enthusiasm for the game bring a new dimension to the Notre Dame baseball team.

Stiffler expressed his delight in having Dofflemyer on board, stating, "We are extremely lucky to have Adam join our program. He has an advanced understanding for motor preferences and how to incorporate it into player development. His impact will be felt immediately by our players."

Previous Coaching Experience

Before joining Notre Dame, Dofflemyer had a successful stint at George Washington University, where he held the title of Director of Pitching/Player Development. His work there led to notable improvements in the pitching staff's performance.

At the University of Mary Washington, Dofflemyer served as the pitching coach. During his time there, the team's pitching staff showed marked statistical improvement. The Eagles' hits per nine innings and ERA dropped significantly, and they posted four shutouts in 2024. Four of the pitchers were named all-conference, and one earned All-Region honors.

Dofflemyer also gained valuable experience during the summer of 2024 as the pitching coach for the Charlotte Tom Sox. The Tom Sox had a league-best 3.87 team ERA and were crowned the 2024 Valley Baseball League Champions.

Certifications and Educational Background

Dofflemyer holds a Motor Preference Experts Level 1 certification, which focuses on personalized pitching development programs for each pitcher. This certification allows him to identify each pitcher's optimal movement pattern and help them reach their full potential.

A 2021 graduate of the University of Lynchburg with a degree in business administration and a minor in statistics, Dofflemyer also holds a master's degree in health design from Lynchburg. His academic background provides him with a unique perspective on player development.

Playing Experience and Contributions

Dofflemyer began his baseball career at the University of Lynchburg, where he made 55 total appearances for the Hornets. Under the guidance of current Irish assistant coach Lucas Jones, Dofflemyer posted a 7-1 record over four seasons and registered 61.0 innings on the mound with a save and 56 strikeouts.

His playing experience gives him a deep understanding of the game and allows him to connect with the players on a personal level.
