The Philadelphia Phillies' Outfield Upgrade Search and Jake Cave's New Journey
2024-11-28
The Philadelphia Phillies are on the hunt for ways to enhance their outfield during the offseason. There was a possibility of a reunion with one of their former players, Jake Cave. In 2024, Cave went through Spring Training with the Phillies, giving the impression that he could be a part of their lineup. However, just before the season began, they traded him to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for cash considerations. At first, this trade didn't seem like a major loss as Cave had only managed a.212/.272/.348 batting average with five home runs, 21 RBI, and an OPS+ of 68 in his 65 games with the Phillies.
Jake Cave's Time with the Colorado Rockies
This past year, Cave became a virtual everyday player for the Rockies. Despite getting more consistent playing time at the plate, his OPS+ still remained 16 points below the league average. After the season, he was outrighted to Colorado's Triple-A affiliate. Instead of waiting around, Cave took matters into his own hands. According to Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net, he signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization. Many Major League players who have struggled to establish themselves in the states have chosen to continue their careers overseas. This allows them to earn a living while working on aspects that could lead to another opportunity in the MLB.
