Community Support and Celebration
The downtown restaurant, more than just a place to grab a bite, became a hub of excitement. Many of its staff members are either current or former Amador Valley High School students. They, along with the large crowd that turned out, watched the home team play in the Division 3 AA State Championship. Matthew Foley, a former Amador Valley High School football player who graduated earlier this year, expressed his excitement, saying, "I get to watch my brother play in the state championship. It’s a surreal moment for him. It’s awesome to have the whole community coming here."This sense of community was palpable, as Kelly French, a member of the school’s class of 1993, remarked, "They’re a great group. We’re proud. They’re representing all of Pleasanton." And Kelly Cantu, Amador Valley’s attendance secretary with two children attending the school, added, "I know every child on that team, and they are the most amazing kids ever."The Journey and Teachings
The Amador Dons' journey to the state championship was a memorable and teachable moment. Michael Jaramillo, a vice principal at Amador Valley, emphasized the importance of hard work. He said, "The fact that hard work pays off. You work hard in the classroom. You work hard in the field. You achieve your goals."Restaurant worker Frankie McBain, who also attends Amador Valley, shared his perspective. He said, "They made it to the state finals. It’s an incredible achievement. They should be proud of themselves."The Close Game and Community Welcome
The game itself was a nail-biter. In the end, Amador Dons lost 18-14. But the team's return to Pleasanton on Saturday morning was a moment of great joy. Community members welcomed them home when they arrived at Amador Valley High School. This event was not just about the game; it was about the unity and support of the community. As Todd Utikal, the owner of Sidetrack Bar + Grill with a daughter attending Amador, said, "In the world today, with everything going on, it’s nice to have something simple and fun to support the kids, knowing they’re working so hard."High School Sports in Pleasanton continues to bring the community together, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
