Stanford Freshman Infielder Charlie Bates Heralded as Future Star

Prior to stepping onto the college diamond, Charlie Bates, a former high school standout from Palo Alto, has already garnered significant attention in the collegiate baseball world. The incoming Stanford freshman has been hailed by Baseball America as one of the top 25 freshmen in the nation for the upcoming season, ranking at number 16. Alongside his teammate Rintaro Sasaki, who tops the list, Bates is set to bring impressive credentials to the Cardinal team. Having emerged as the second-best shortstop in California and the 24th overall prospect nationally, Bates chose to pursue a college education at Stanford over early entry into the MLB draft.

The Stanford baseball program, after a challenging 2024 season where they finished with a record of 22-33, has undergone significant changes.
