Newcomers Steal the Spotlight
Several newcomers to the EMU tennis team made a significant impact at the Spartan Invitational. Freshman Viki Hazmukova and Lara Diaz Zayas, along with graduate transfer Marta Komar, all turned in standout performances, showcasing their talent and potential.Diaz Zayas, hailing from Mar de Ajo, Argentina, posted three wins over the weekend, including a 2-1 record in doubles play with partner Daniella Shved. Hazmukova and Komar, both competing in Flight D, also impressed with 2-1 records, with Komar narrowly missing a perfect 3-0 finish after a tough three-set loss.These newcomers' success not only highlights the depth of the EMU tennis program but also the team's ability to seamlessly integrate new talent and elevate their overall performance.Consistent Singles Play and Improved Teamwork
Head Coach Ryan Kucera was particularly pleased with the team's progress, noting the significant improvements in their singles play and overall cohesion."Our singles play especially is getting much more consistent, we are better in all phases of the game, and we are growing more comfortable in committing ourselves to our tennis in the big moments," Kucera said. "There are so many positives to build off and I am incredibly excited for the spring."The Eagles' ability to compete at a high level against tough opponents is a testament to their dedication and the coaching staff's efforts to develop well-rounded players.
