The opening day of the tournament saw Harvard's Valdemar Pape and Elisha Thornton each secure individual victories over their California counterparts. Pape delivered a commanding performance, dispatching Johnatan Irwanto (Cal) in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Thornton, meanwhile, battled his way to a hard-fought victory, emerging victorious in a tiebreaker-decided third set.
