On Sunday, April 13, the No. 71 Missouri tennis team wrapped up its regular season in a doubleheader split against No. 38 Kentucky and Lindenwood. The Tigers faced a setback in their first match, falling to the Wildcats by a score of 0-4. However, they rebounded strongly in their final home game, defeating Lindenwood 4-0. Key performances from senior Inah Canete and junior Andrea Artimedi highlighted the day's matches. Looking ahead, Missouri will participate in the upcoming SEC Women’s Championship at Auburn University starting on Wednesday, April 16. Additionally, the women’s golf team prepares for their SEC Championship event in Belleair, Florida, while the men’s golf team competes at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in Mississippi.
In the opening bout against Kentucky, the Tigers struggled to gain momentum. Despite efforts from several players, including Canete, who managed to hold her ground in three singles matches before the contest was halted due to Kentucky securing another victory, Missouri could not break through. Similarly, Artimedi was engaged in her match when it was cut short. These interruptions underscored the challenges the Tigers faced against a formidable opponent.
Shifting gears for their second match, the Tigers showcased resilience and determination. They secured the doubles point early on, thanks to triumphs in two out of three doubles encounters. As the competition transitioned into singles play, the Tigers maintained their focus, achieving four consecutive victories from Gian Cota, Artimedi, and Zoe Lazar. This streak solidified their dominance and ensured a decisive win over Lindenwood.
Beyond these matches, the women’s golf team is set to compete in Belleair, Florida, from April 14 to 18. Participating teams will engage in a 54-hole stroke-play format followed by match play stages. Meanwhile, the men’s golf team embarks on their journey at the Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Mississippi, facing strong contenders such as ULM, UTEP, Southern Miss, and others.
As the curtain closes on the regular season, anticipation builds for the postseason tournaments. The Tigers are poised to bring their best efforts to the SEC Championships, aiming to make significant strides and leave a lasting impression. With dedicated athletes and strategic gameplay, Missouri hopes to elevate their standings and achieve remarkable results in the coming competitions.
