UNC Basketball's Isaiah Denis Shuts Down 'Overrated' Chants
2024-12-04
In early November, Isaiah Denis made a significant commitment to Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels. Just two weeks later, he signed his UNC basketball scholarship agreement. As a prep standout from Davidson Day School outside Charlotte, North Carolina, it was only a matter of time before opposing fans started targeting him with taunts during his senior year.
Responding to Chants with Outstanding Performance
On Tuesday night, as noted by SLAM HS Hoops in a post, the 6-foot-5, 175-pound Denis, a top-tier four-star guard ranked No. 62 overall on the 247Sports 2025 Composite, showed his mettle. He responded to chants of “Overrated!” by pouring in 20 points, leading Davidson Day to a victory over in-town foe Community School of Davidson and its 2025 Division II Catawba College commit, Dermot Lowry. This was not his first remarkable performance. Four nights earlier at the Holiday Hoopsgiving showcase in Atlanta, Denis shined with 24 points in a 76-71 win over Tri-Cities High School (Ga.). 247Sports’ Travis Branham gave the following assessment: “Isaiah Denis and his Davidson Day squad faced a tough Tri Cities team with multiple ranked juniors. It took a while for Denis to get into his rhythm, but once he did, his speed, length, and athleticism became a problem for the opposition. Denis’ handle seems to have improved, and although his shot wasn’t falling to its usual standard, it opened up opportunities for him to showcase his ability to create off the dribble.”Isaiah Denis and Gonzaga College High School (D.C.) four-star guard Derek Dixon make up the 2025 UNC basketball recruiting class at present. However, Hubert Davis and his staff are still in the running for a couple of undecided five-stars.Stay tuned to North Carolina Tar Heels On SI for more UNC basketball recruiting news.
