Utah Football Actively Recruits Promising Wide Receivers for 2025 Season
2025-05-01

The Utah football team, under the leadership of Coach Kyle Whittingham, is intensifying its efforts to bolster the wide receiver lineup ahead of the 2025 season. Recently securing a commitment from Larry Simmons, a transfer from Southern Miss, the Utes have now set their sights on Isaiah Spencer, a talented 6-foot-2 wideout. Spencer, who shared his excitement about receiving an offer from Utah on social media, has garnered significant attention in the college football world. Over the past two years at Jackson State, he demonstrated impressive skills, recording 35 receptions for 660 yards and four touchdowns during his sophomore campaign in 2024.

Despite successfully engaging with Spencer, Utah faced a setback with Jer’Michael Carter, another highly sought-after transfer. Although the Utes showed keen interest in Carter, a standout player from McNeese State, he ultimately committed to Oklahoma after visiting the Sooners. This decision came as a surprise since Carter had been actively considering offers from multiple schools, including Utah, Baylor, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee. Meanwhile, Spencer remains a coveted asset, having received offers not only from Utah but also from Virginia Tech, Baylor, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Pitt, and West Virginia. As competition heats up, Kentucky appears to be in a strong position following an official visit with Spencer, while Baylor aims to sway him during an upcoming visit this weekend.

With Dorian Singer advancing to the NFL, Utah finds itself in need of strengthening its wide receiver corps. Even though they secured commitments from Otto Tia, Justin Stevenson, and Creed Whitmore earlier, Coach Whittingham acknowledged the necessity of further enhancing this position group via the transfer portal, especially after Zach Williams also entered the portal. Another potential reinforcement could come from Tobias Merriweather, a transfer from California. According to reports, Utah stands a good chance of acquiring Merriweather, whose presence would significantly boost the team's offensive capabilities. With these strategic moves, Utah aims to assemble a formidable wide receiver unit that can elevate their performance in the upcoming season.
