During the holiday break at Wheeling University, the campus is abuzz with activity as it gears up for the upcoming spring semester. The Wheeling University Baseball team is in full swing, getting ready to fill fans' stockings with the excitement of their 2025 schedule. After a tough preseason on the road, the Cardinals are set to provide plenty of home action from March to May, with 12 home doubleheaders.

2024 Season Recap

In the 2024 season, many veterans led the way as the Cardinals aimed to make a comeback in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament. They handled their preseason well, going 9-4 in home and neutral site games and entering MEC play with high spirits. However, the tide quickly turned as they got swept by Charleston and West Virginia State before securing their first conference win with a split against West Virginia Wesleyan. As they finished in the MEC South, they gained momentum with sweeps of Davis & Elkins and Concord, but a split with Glenville State left them at 6-6 heading into the divisional schedule. The Cardinals would split against three of the four divisional opponents and earn the #3 seed from the MEC North. They faced Charleston in the first round of the MEC Tournament but fell 10-0. Their run ended with a close 8-7 loss to Frostburg State.

Starting the Year in Warmer Weather

As they do every season, the Cardinals will begin the year in warmer weather. They will take on Carolina University in a three-game series starting on February 14th. Following that, they will have their first "home" game at Go Mart Ballpark in Charleston, West Virginia, playing three against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival Pitt-Johnstown. They will close out their preseason warm weather stretch in Cary, North Carolina, playing three games as part of the Atlantic Regional Crossover weekend.

MEC Play Begins

The MEC play kicks off with a weekend down south, as the Cardinals take on Charleston on March 15th and West Virginia State on March 16th. They then have a non-conference midweek game against CAL-U before returning home for their MEC home opener against West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins. Their first home non-conference game is against Bluefield State on March 27th, and the team ends the month on the road against Concord and Glenville State.

April and May Schedule

As April rolls around, the Cardinals dive right into their MEC North Division Schedule. After opening the weekend of April at home against Salem, they host Fairmont State on April 18th and 19th and West Liberty in their final home series on May 4th. They add road series with Frostburg State on April 12th and 13th and Point Park on April 26th and 27th to complete their conference schedule.The Wheeling University Baseball team opens the season on Friday, February 14th, when they travel to Carolina University.
