Bulldogs Unleash Their Roar on the Women's Side

The Yale women's tennis team made a strong statement at the Women's Ivy League Masters tournament, hosted by Penn in Philadelphia. Four Bulldogs took to the court, each leaving an indelible mark on the competition. Julia Werdiger '28 kicked off the day with a commanding 6–1, 6–1 victory over Columbia's Carolyn Brodsky, securing her spot in the round of 16. Shyla Aggarwal '27 followed suit, dispatching Cornell's Victoria Zhao 6–3, 6–2 to advance. Ann Wright Guerry '26 capped off the day with a decisive 6–2, 6–1 triumph over Columbia's Amber Yin.The second day of the tournament saw the Bulldogs continue their winning ways. Aggarwal won her first match of the day 6–1, 7–6 over Columbia's Emily Baek before securing a spot in the semifinals with a 6–4, 6–2 victory over Princeton's Isabella Chhiv. Guerry also had a standout day, claiming two victories to earn her own semifinal berth. She first outlasted Dartmouth's Sam Grosjean in three sets, 6–3, 3–6, 6–2, and then cruised past Princeton's Eva Elbaz 6-1, 6–3.Werdiger's tournament run came to an end in the quarterfinals, as she fell to Princeton's Alice Feritito 6–4, 6–3 after a hard-fought 6–7, 6–4, 7–6 victory over Penn's Gavriella Smith. In doubles, Aggarwal and Erin Ha '27 advanced to the semifinals with an 8–3 win over Dartmouth's Elise Wong and Sam Grosjean.

Bulldogs Dominate the Men's Side

The Yale men's tennis team also made their presence felt at the Ivy League Masters tournament, with five Bulldogs competing. On the opening day, the Elis went a perfect 4-0 in singles, with Edward Liao '28, Jim Ji '27, Jason Shuler '28, and Renaud Lefevre '26 all emerging victorious.The second day saw Liao and Ji continue their winning ways, with Liao defeating Dartmouth's Yujiro Onuma 6–3, 6–4, and Ji easily handling Princeton's Milan Markovits 6–2, 6–3. Shuler and Lefevre, however, fell short in their respective matches.In doubles, Shuler and Vignesh Gogineni '26 made a strong run, claiming two victories to advance to the finals. They opened the day with an 8–6 win over Dartmouth's Denny Bao and Carlos Guerrero Alvarez, and followed it up with an 8–3 triumph over Brown's Luka Butera and Sanjeev Chundu.In the quarterfinals, Ji emerged victorious over Cornell's Petar Teodorovic in three sets, 6–1, 2–6, 6–4, while Liao fell to Cornell's Rodrigo Fernandes after a hard-fought three-set battle. In the semifinals, Ji avenged his teammate Shuler's loss by defeating Fernandes in straight sets, 7–6 (14-12), 6–2, to advance to the final.

The final day of the event saw Ji face off against Dartmouth's Carlos Guerrero Alvarez for the chance to advance to the ITA Masters tournament. Continuing his dominant performance, Ji easily dispatched Alvarez 6–3, 6–2 to claim the Ivy League ITA Masters Championship and secure his spot in the ITA Masters tournament in San Diego, California.On the women's side, the finals match was an all-Yale affair, as Aggarwal and Guerry battled it out for the championship. Aggarwal emerged victorious, winning 6–2, 6–1 to claim the Ivy League ITA Masters title and earn her ticket to the ITA Masters Championship in Rome, Georgia.The Bulldogs' impressive performances at the Ivy League ITA Masters Qualifying tournaments have solidified their status as the tennis powerhouses of the Ivy League.
