Los Alamitos is all set to host an exciting six-day winter Thoroughbred meet in 2024. The action kicks off on December 6 and continues through December 15, with racing taking place from Friday to Sunday each week. First post is at 3:30 p.m. EST.
Stakes Highlights
The meet features four stakes worth a combined $600,000. The first of these is the $200,000 Starlet (G2) for 2-year-old fillies on December 7. It's a 1 1/16-mile race that promises thrilling competition. One week later, on December 14, the $200,000 Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) for 2-year-olds will also be run over the same distance. Completing the schedule are a pair of one-mile races. The $100,000 Soviet Problem, open to fillies, is on December 8, and the $100,000 King Glorious for colts and geldings is on December 15.Admission and Parking
Grandstand admission is $3 for general visitors and $2 for seniors 62 and older. Admission to Burgart’s is $10, and Vessels Club also costs $10. Los Alamitos offers free general parking, while preferred parking is $5. Fans can conveniently purchase tickets online on the Los Alamitos website.Wagering Options
The wagering menu is rich and diverse. There is a pair of $1 Pick 4 wagers on races 2-5 and the final four races. Additionally, a $2 Pick 6 and the Players’ Pick 5 are available. The Pick 5, which covers the first five races, has a 50-cent minimum bet and a reduced 14 percent takeout rate. The Pick 6 will have a 70-30 split, with 70 percent of the pool going to those with six winners and 30 percent to tickets with five of six winners.Handicapping Contest
On December 14, a handicapping contest will take place. Los Alamitos will offer a cash prize and two berths in the 2025 National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas. The entry fee is $500, with $100 going into the contest prize pool and the remaining $400 used for a live money wagering card. Tournament races will include the entire card at Los Alamitos, with permitted wagers including win, place, show, exactas, trifectas, and daily doubles.
