Early 2026 UNC Basketball Target Miikka Muurinen's Visits
2024-12-04
Miikka Muurinen, the forward from Compass Prep (Ariz.), has been making waves in the college basketball recruiting scene. A five-star junior with immense potential, he hasn't ruled out a reclass from 2026 to 2025. In late July, he received an offer from UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis. At that time, the 6-foot-10, 195-pound stretch-four was ranked No. 71 overall on the 247Sports 2026 Composite, but it was clear that his stock was due for a significant boost.
From Rankings to Prominence
Four months later, Muurinen has climbed the ranks and now checks in at No. 5 among his peers and No. 1 among power forwards in the loaded class. His versatility and talent have caught the attention of many, and he has plans to explore different college basketball programs. On Wednesday, he told League Ready that he intends to check out the Tar Heels at some point this season. He is also eyeing trips to Duke and Kentucky, two other blueblood programs.Early Campus Tours
So far, Muurinen has taken only three official visits in his recruitment. His campus tours at Utah, Michigan, and Arkansas took place on consecutive weekends in September. These visits have given him a taste of different college environments and helped him in his decision-making process.UNC Basketball Wishlist
Including Miikka Muurinen, six 2026 prospects have made it onto the UNC basketball wishlist. One of the targets, Reidsville High School (N.C.) dual-sport standout Kendre Harrison, recently committed to Oregon. However, the other five remain undecided. Paul VI Catholic High School (Va.) five-star guard Jordan Smith Jr., Grayson High School (Ga.) five-star forward Caleb Holt, Caldwell Academy (N.C.) five-star forward Cole Cloer, and Notre Dame High School (Calif.) five-star forward Tyran Stokes sit alongside Muurinen on that list of 2026 Tar Heel pursuits.Seasonal Plans and Future Prospects
Muurinen's decision to visit the Tar Heels and other top programs this season is a significant step in his basketball journey. It shows his ambition and desire to play at the highest level. As he continues to develop his skills and gain more exposure, he has the potential to become a star in college basketball.
