In 1990, Mike Bezemek embarked on his local tennis coaching career at Ysleta Junior High. At that time, there was no middle school tennis program in El Paso at all. He saw an opportunity to give everyday regular kids the chance to play tennis at an earlier age. By starting this program, he was breaking barriers and opening doors for those who might otherwise have been overlooked.This initiative was a testament to his belief that tennis should be accessible to all, regardless of one's socio-economic background. It showed his dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of young tennis players.Kicking Off a Middle School Tennis Program
Despite the lack of a middle school tennis tradition in El Paso, Bezemek took it upon himself to create one. From 1993 to 1995, Bezemek worked at Vista Hills Country Club, where he dedicated his time to giving free tennis lessons to underprivileged children. Since 2000, Bezemek has found his home at Socorro High School. Here, he is not only the head coach but also oversees the middle school program that he started. Over the past 24 years as the Bulldog head coach, he has mentored 21 student-athletes who have gone on to play at the collegiate level.His impact on these students has been immeasurable. He has taught them not only how to play tennis but also how to be successful in life.
