Sofia Basto-Cabrera from Shawnee emerged as a standout. As a freshman, she dominated the South Jersey tennis scene by winning the SJ Interscholastic Championships title at first singles by the end of the year. She reached the semifinals of the NJSIAA state singles tournament and also claimed more titles at the Olympic Conference and Burlington County Tournaments in singles. Her performance played a crucial role in Shawnee's first-ever state title in Group 3 from the top position in the lineup. Basto-Cabrera played in every match for the Renegades this season and remained undefeated until the state singles semis. Her achievements are remarkable, as many players can only dream of such success over four years.
Her dominance on the court was evident as she led Shawnee to new heights. Her victories at various tournaments and her consistent play made her a force to be reckoned with.
Shawnee had an exceptional season, winning its third sectional title in four years. The Renegades went even further than before by finishing the season unbeaten at 18-0. They achieved this by defeating West Windsor-Plainsboro North in a thrilling 3-2 match at Mercer County Park. Basto-Cabrera and Divya Prajapati performed well at first and third singles, and Victoria vonHahmann's 10-point tiebreaker victory at second singles sealed the deal.
The Renegades also had notable wins in the semifinals against Tenafly, helping them make it to their first-ever final. This season, they also won titles at the Burlington County Open and the Olympic Conference Tournament. Basto-Cabrera captured the singles crown at the SJIC, and first doubles Emma Czechowski and Sofia Kaufer won the doubles title at the BC Open. Sophia Giordano and Sophia Shoff at second doubles also had their moments.
