LSU Football Urgently Needs to Address Offensive Line in Transfer Portal
2024-12-17
LSU football witnessed significant activity during the initial week of the transfer portal window. However, certain requirements still persist, with one of the key areas being the offensive line.

LSU's Offensive Line - A Critical Need for Success

Offensive Line Challenges in 2024

The Tigers faced a setback with tackles Will Campbell and Emery Jones deciding to enter the NFL draft. Additionally, guards Miles Frazier and Garrett Dellinger used up their eligibility. This led to the departure of four starters up front. The only player set to return is center DJ Chester. Despite a wave of additions, LSU has been slow to address the offensive line issue, making it the most pressing need on the team.We got a glimpse of redshirt freshmen Paul Mubenga and Tyree Adams at guard in 2024, and the performance was inconsistent. At tackle, freshman Weston Davis is waiting in the wings but played only 16 snaps during that year.

Looking Ahead to 2025

LSU aims to be in a position where it doesn't have to rely solely on unproven underclassmen in 2025. With quarterback Garrett Nussmeier returning for his fifth year and the emergence of a star running back in Caden Durham, the offense has the potential to be one of the best in the country. But for this to happen, maintaining talent on the offensive line is crucial. The team has shown confidence in the talent of the young offensive linemen on the roster. Apart from the draft losses, LSU has managed to retain its linemen well, with none entering the portal. This gives them a foundation to build on.There is a sense of urgency among the coaching staff to address the offensive line situation. They are working hard to bring in the right recruits and develop the existing players to ensure a strong offensive line in the coming years. LSU knows that a solid offensive line is the backbone of a successful offense, and they are committed to making the necessary improvements.
