The Minnesota Star Tribune's Boys Basketball Top 25: Little Movement Among the Top Teams
2024-12-19
In the Minnesota Star Tribune's boys basketball rankings, the top 10 teams have shown relatively little movement. Class 3A powerhouses Benilde-St. Margaret's and Orono have swapped positions, now occupying the third and fourth spots respectively. Cretin-Derham Hall continues to hold the number one position, with Hopkins following closely at number two.

Get in the Holiday (Tournament) Spirit

As the holiday season approaches, it's time to embrace the tournament spirit. Will Santa Claus bring any unexpected gifts or cause upsets next week? Most of the state's top teams are spread across various locations and won't face each other directly at holiday basketball tournaments. However, there are two notable exceptions. On Saturday, December 28th, at 1 p.m., 3A championship contenders No. 6 Alexandria and No. 10 Mankato East will meet in the Capitol City Classic at Concordia University in St. Paul. On Friday, December 27th, at 7:30 p.m., No. 5 Sauk Rapids-Rice will host No. 9 Champlin Park as part of the Granite City Classic.

Orono and Totino-Grace's Holiday Adventure

Meanwhile, No. 4 Orono and No. 7 Totino-Grace are participating in the Hoop City Classic after Christmas at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota. They will be competing against teams from South Dakota, Nevada, and Tennessee. This provides an exciting opportunity for these teams to showcase their skills on a national stage.

Cretin-Derham Hall's Dominance

Cretin-Derham Hall remains at the top with an impressive 5-0 record. Their consistent performance has solidified their position as the top team in the state. They have shown great teamwork and individual skills, making them a force to be reckoned with. Each game they play is a testament to their dominance on the court.

Hopkins' Strong Start

Hopkins is also off to a great start with a 5-0 record. They have been playing with great intensity and determination, winning games with ease. Their players are highly skilled and have a great understanding of the game. Hopkins is definitely a team to watch as the season progresses.
