Georgia Tech Women's Basketball Celebrates 50 Years
This season, Georgia Tech is commemorating the 50th anniversary of women's basketball on The Flats. Under the guidance of coach Jim Culpepper, the team competed in the Georgia Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (GAIAW) in 1974-75 and later joined the ACC in 1979-80. Over the past 50 years, there have been many remarkable moments. The team has participated in the NCAA Tournament 11 times, with two Sweet 16 appearances in 2012 and 2021. It has also produced nine WNBA draft picks, including first-round selections like Alex Montgomery and Sasha Goodlett. In its first postseason berth, Georgia Tech won the 1992 National Women's Invitational Tournament. Currently, under head coach Nell Fortner, the Yellow Jackets have reached postseason play three times in the last five years.Full Steam Ahead
