Syracuse Football: Former LSU QB Rickie Collins to Transfer
2024-12-18
The Syracuse Orange are in the midst of a significant quarterback shuffle as they look to replace Kyle McCord. Recent developments have brought former LSU quarterback Rickie Collins into the mix. On Wednesday afternoon, Syracuse.com's Brent Axe reported that Collins will transfer to Syracuse. He is a Baton Rouge, Louisiana native with three years of eligibility left.
Collins' Instagram Activity
Rickie Collins Jr. made a notable post on his Instagram story. He had previously reposted posts about his transfer to Syracuse but later took them down. This has sparked much speculation and interest among fans and the media.Collins' LSU Career
In his LSU career spanning two seasons, Collins has played only four games. In his first year, he went 2-2 passing for three yards. In his second year, he was 5-5 passing for 35 yards. He also rushed three times for 19 yards in his first year and four times for 18 yards in his second year. Despite the limited playing time, he was a highly regarded recruit out of Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, a consensus four-star and top-20 quarterback. He was a finalist for the Elite 11 quarterback camp in 2022.Competition for Syracuse's QB Room
Syracuse was in contention for both Collins and Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter. The Liberty QB visited Syracuse last week but committed to joining Colorado earlier on Wednesday morning. Virginia quarterback transfer Anthony Colandrea also reportedly visited Syracuse this past weekend. Currently, the Syracuse quarterback room consists of two returning scholarship players in Michael Johnson Jr. and Jakhari Williams. On early signing day, the Orange added two quarterbacks, Rich Belin from New York and Luke Carney from Texas.Waiver Possibilities for McCord
There are unconfirmed reports suggesting that the Orange are applying for a waiver to allow Kyle McCord to return for an extra year in college. McCord led the nation in passing yards with 4,326 yards, setting a new Syracuse single-season passing yards record. Syracuse will conclude its 2024 season and first year under Fran Brown's leadership with an appearance in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego on December 27. Kickoff is set for 8:00 pm ET on FOX.
